Heart & Soul Counseling LGBTQIA / Gender Therapy

At Heart & Soul Counseling, we work hard to prevent and address discrimination of anyone who may be different. Diversity in other societies and species is often seen as special, so we see our services and clients who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, questioning, intersex, asexual or gender atypical in any aspect as special. We offer individual and couple’s therapy for the LGBTQIA community. We also offer pride workshops and panels, as well as psycho-education to communities who may be ignorant about the special individuals in our society. We are proud, we celebrate each person’s distinctive identity, and our goal is to help eradicate discrimination, hate and oppression throughout society.

Gender Therapy

For many people, facing gender identity issues for the first time can be overwhelming, evoking feelings of shame, embarrassment, low self-esteem and fear. For transgender or gender atypical individuals seeking therapy, it is crucial that the therapist present an open and accepting environment through which one can explore their feelings. Our goal is to help people validate their identity, resolve any conflict they may feel, and successfully integrate into society in whatever manner is most comfortable for each person.

Gender Transition

For individuals or parents of children interested gender transition/affirmation (whether it be social, hormonal or surgical) we provide guidance and information to help you prepare for any social, financial, physical or emotional challenges you may experience, both before and during the process. Heart & Soul has helped guide hundreds of people successfully through their gender transitions. We are members of WPATH (World Professional Association for Transgender Health.) In concert with therapy, we can provide hormone and surgical referral letters, carry letters, DMV letters, and letters for name and sex marker change on public documents.

"Loveeeee Heart and Soul!!! I’m a transgender woman and I've been going to Heart & Soul for four years now. Seeing a gender therapist is an important part of your journey while transitioning. When I first came to Heart & Soul, my gender dysphoria was through the roof, and I had never met a transgender individual, but always knew I was a woman waiting to blossom. From receiving my first hormone dosage, to obtaining life-saving surgeries, Heart & Soul has always been there, championing me to become the woman they knew I was, fighting on my behalf on many occasions. I could not have transitioned, or become as happy as I am, without their support, love and counseling. This is the place to take the first to last steps in your transition."

IMPORTANT: It has been conclusively established that gender dysphoria and the feelings associated with being gender atypical are not "abnormal" and cannot be alleviated or corrected by behavior modification techniques or "reparative therapy." Heart & Soul is expressly opposed to such practices. Fortunately, these attitudes have been largely dismissed by the psychiatric community, but if you have been the victim of such practices, we encourage you to come in and let us help you undo the trauma associated with these flawed approaches.
